Meet Jimmy Larkin LCPC, LCAC

Helping individuals, couples, and families move past old cycles and step into a life of vitality and connection.

I have 5 amazing kids and because there are so many it’s hard to fit everyone into a selfie! We are a chiefs family and for Father’s Day this year they treated me to a Chiefs preseason game! We’re hopeful the Chiefs are back to their winning ways!

A little bit about me…

My younger daughter, Lily, graduated from high school this year, which means I am over halfway towards seeing all of my kids move into adulthood. I am starting to accept that it also means I’m OLD, as my kids constantly remind me!

We are a lake family which means we spend a lot of weekends away doing all the lake activities and having fun. My newest hobby is purchasing older jet skis off the marketplace and fixing them up for the kids to ride. I also enjoy the mountains with all the beauty they hold, and I have been known to enjoy an evening in at the New Dinner Theater.

I believe that therapy shouldn't mean sitting in an intimidating room while someone quietly takes notes. Healing happens when you are met with genuine warmth, unwavering respect, and active, practical tools. Life transitions, relationship hurdles, and behavioral patterns can make you feel completely disconnected from the person you want to be. My goal is to build a collaborative partnership with you—providing a steady, non-judgmental space where you can untangle the past, regulate your nervous system, and map out a clear path forward.

My Philosophy

An Active, Systems-Focused Approach to Healing

Every individual, couple, and family system is completely unique. Because a one-size-fits-all model rarely creates lasting change, I utilize an integrative clinical framework tailored to your specific goals. My therapeutic approach blends:

  • Action-Oriented Modalities: Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and Reality Therapy to identify underlying thought loops and transform them into real-world habits.

  • Systemic Mapping: Utilizing Family Systems Therapy and the trusted Prepare/Enrich framework to help couples and families view their relationships objectively and rebuild structural harmony.

  • Empathetic Engagement: Incorporating Motivational Interviewing to meet you exactly where you are in your recovery or life change journey, turning internal readiness into tangible momentum.

Advanced Experience Built for Outpatient Success

I am a licensed professional dedicated to upholding the highest clinical standards set by the state of Kansas. My professional background spans multiple levels of care—from intensive rehabilitation environments to family crisis settings. This deep, diverse experience allows me to bring an advanced, real-world perspective to my outpatient practice, specializing in three core areas:

  • Deep Intimacy & Relationship Restoration: My extensive work stabilizing family systems during high-stakes structural crises means I don't get overwhelmed by loud conflict or icy silences. I know how to step into a fractured dynamic, identify hidden systemic patterns, and give couples the concrete tools they need to communicate safely and restore their bond.

  • Sustainable Addiction Recovery & Autonomy: Having spent years working within inpatient addiction rehabilitation facilities, I have an intimate, inside out understanding of how dependencies form and break. I translate those intensive, clinical insights into practical, weekly outpatient strategies—helping you conquer chemical habits or process compulsions (porn, gambling, screens) while maintaining your job, family life, and daily routine.

  • Navigating Stressful Life Adjustments & Accountability: My experience collaborating with complex regional systems, including the Johnson County and Wyandotte County legal frameworks, has taught me how to help people process massive stress under pressure. Whether you are facing an unexpected life pivot, severe workplace burnout, or a major lifestyle transition, I provide the strategic coping tools and structured accountability needed to help you regain your footing.

  • Clinical Supervision: In addition to my direct work with clients, I serve as a clinical mentor to provisionally licensed professional counselors (LPCs) across Kansas, guiding the next generation of therapists in mastering evidence-based modalities like CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and systemic care.
